7. Dunstanburgh Castle and Craster
Meeting Point: Newton Steads Car Park, High Newton-by-the-Sea, Alnwick, NE66 3DF
We begin this walk near the village of High Newton-by-the-sea, and we wind our way around the rugged coastline until we reach Low Newton-by-the-sea.
We pick up St Oswald's Way and head south, past Newton Pool Nature Reserve, and continue until we reach the distinctive ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle.
From here, we follow the coastal path down to the harbour town of Craster, a place famed for its smoked kippers.
Turning back, we head inland across flat coastal lowlands until we reach Embleton, before returning to our starting point.
